In 2016, Oxford Royale Academy was delighted to welcome students from every inhabited continent on Earth, between them representing 108 different nationalities - from Azerbaijan to Trinidad and Tobago. This diversity is one of the main things that makes attending an Oxford Royale Academy course so special. It’s particularly the case when in London, itself one of the most diverse and vibrant cities in the world.
There is no typical Oxford Royale Academy student; what unites the students who attend our courses is an eagerness to explore the world and to learn. Some students choose an ORA course because they want a taste of student life in the UK ahead of making a university application; others because they want to improve their English in a group where it’s the only language everyone has in common; others because they simply want a chance to experience the history and culture of the UK.
With more than ten years of experience, we know how to accommodate all these different needs and goals. All ORA students have the opportunity to receive guidance about university applications, and as many of our pastoral staff are current or past students of the universities in which we are based, they are able to advise students on the reality of student life there.
Our range of activities and excursions allow students to get to know the UK, its history and traditions, and the social aspects of our programmes makes it easy for students who don’t have English as a first language to practise by speaking to their newfound friends. Icebreaker activities from the moment you arrive make it easy to settle in and get to know people. Over the years that we have been offering summer school courses, we’ve found that many students still keep in touch with the ORA friends years later - some even return to us year on year to see the friends they made the first time they studied with us.
