A career in architecture is both rewarding and fascinating, but opportunities to see what it might entail are rare. Oxford Royale Academy’s Summer Architecture Programme, offered as part of our London summer school, gives students an insight into the work of architects, and a head start on getting into this competitive career.
In classes of no more than 15, you will learn from expert teachers exactly how architects go about their work, from initial planning stages through to construction. You will learn skills such as design and mapping in order to put together a portfolio, as part of a group project in which you will compete with your peers. You’ll also receive guidance from your teacher on how best to work towards a future as an architect.
London is the perfect city in which to study architecture, with some of the world’s most famous and celebrated buildings on your doorstep. So much of the skyline is instantly recognisable, from the modern triumphs of the Gherkin and the Shard, to Sir Christopher Wren’s awe-inspiring St Paul’s Cathedral. Whatever your architectural taste, you’re sure to find something to inspire you here. Getting to see London’s architecture up close is an important feature of the programme, and you will have plenty of opportunities to get out of the classroom to do so.
Students taking the Summer Architecture Programme are not expected to have extensive knowledge of architecture already. Having studied Physics, Mathematics, and Art and Design is an advantage in getting to grips with the introductory engineering, architectural drawing and model construction that will be taught on the course.
